School for the Deaf
-
The Irving ISD, in partnership with families and the community, shall meet the educational needs of students with auditory impairments by producing engaged learners who are critical thinkers, leaders, and contributors in a technological, diverse, and competitive 21st-century world.
The Irving Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD) was established in 1975. The teachers are all certified Teachers of the Deaf.
Students who receive services from the RDSPD are those who qualify as auditorially-impaired and whose hearing loss interferes with processing linguistic information. A student's educational performance must be adversely affected by the hearing loss, giving him or her the need for educational assistance. A student (age birth to 3 years) is determined eligible for the RDSPD by the local Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECI). A student (age 3 -22 years) is determined eligible for the RDSPD by the local Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee.
The RDSPD in Irving provides services for students with hearing impairments who live within Irving, Grand Prairie, and Duncanville school districts.
When students need daily direct instruction from a teacher of the deaf or services of a sign language interpreter, they attend Britain Elementary School, Bowie Middle School and Nimitz High School.
