Formed on April 23, 1909, the Irving Independent School District is a premier school district in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and is one of the most diverse school districts in the state. Our commitment is simple – we set every student up for success, equipping them to reach their maximum potential. We keep this commitment by hiring the best teachers, placing students in technology-rich classrooms and integrating real-world experiences into our curriculum. Our commitment starts early with 3-year-olds attending pre-kindergarten classes and ends with high school students earning industry certifications and associate degrees.
Our award-winning schools serve approximately 31,400 PreK-12 students by more than 4,000 dedicated employees. The district is comprised of 37 campuses that cover more than 5.15 million square feet across 613 acres. It is the 12th largest school district in the DFW metroplex and 39th largest school district in the state of Texas, according to Niche.com.
Proudly called “the best district in the nation” by Superintendent Magda Hernandez, our hardworking students and staff and committed parents, volunteers and community members are what makes Irving ISD successful.
It is an exciting time to be in Irving ISD! Data shows our schools are trending upward in academic achievement as reflected by the 2019 STAAR test results. Irving ISD students continue to shine in all subjects and grade levels.
In 2020, the district opened its first collegiate academy, Singley Collegiate Academy, giving students the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credit hours, tuition-free. The district also expanded its career and technical programs to middle schools so students can begin exploring career tracks at a younger age. In August 2022, the district opened its second collegiate academy, South Irving Collegiate Academy, in South Irving, giving more students access to free college.
