About Board Meetings
The Board of Trustees holds regular meetings, which are open to the public, one or two times per month in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 2621 West Airport Freeway. Monthly Work Sessions are held at 5 p.m. and Board Meetings are held immediately following work sessions at 7 p.m.
In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Law, the Board has the privilege of meeting privately in executive session to discuss matters related to personnel, land acquisition, student hearings, and to consult with legal counsel. A majority of the board constitutes a quorum for the transaction of business.
When necessary, the board schedules other public meetings (special-called meetings, emergency meetings and work sessions) to conduct additional business and for in-depth study of programs and issues.
Advance notices of all meetings are posted at the Administration Building and posted online.
If you or someone you know would like to request an interpreter for a language other than English, please visit the Translation/Interpretation page to learn more about the services we make available to the public.
Addressing the Board
Individuals who have questions about making a public comment or addressing the board should contact Legal Services at 972.600.5456. In addition, the individual must need to complete a Public Comment Card, which is available at the board meetings. After completing the card, it can be given to any board member or district administrator, so the individual can be recognized during the “Public Comment” section of the agenda.
Before addressing the Board, speakers should identify themselves by name, address, zip code and organization represented, if any, and remarks must be limited to the time allotted to each speaker by the presiding officer. The presiding officer will allot no less than 1 minute but no more than 3 minutes to any individual speaker. Public comments may not include charges against any employee or student of the District.
Board Member Terms of Office
Trustees are elected by the school district’s registered voters to rotating three-year terms. Elections are conducted on the first Saturday in May and two or three trustee places are filled each year. Following the May election, trustees elect a president, vice president, and secretary to serve for one-year terms.
