    • Trustee AD Jenkins earned Master Trustee Designation from the Texas Association of School Board's Leadership TASB program
    • 170 students graduated from Adult Education and Literacy programs 
    • Ribbon cutting held for the Magda A. Hernández Institute of Wellness and Professional Learning
    • Groundbreaking held for Baby University, the first of six projects approved by voters in the May 2023 bond

    • Superintendent Hernández named first recipient of the Power of Inspiration Award at the 5th Annual Leadership Summit for Women District Leaders
    • Groundbreaking held for the Student Transportation & Logistics Center and Crockett Middle School 
    • 30 summer graduates are celebrated at summer graduation
    • New hires are welcomed at the Back-to-School Luncheon, where Brandenburg Elementary School won the Annual Spirit Award
    • Irving ISD is named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association for the second consecutive year

    SEPTEMBER

    • Superintendent Hernández named winner of PRISM Award for Mental Health Advocacy by Mental Health America of Greater Dallas (MHA Dallas)
    • 106 Irving ISD high school students earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs
    • Nimitz High School senior Johnathan Petrosky was nominated by State Representative Terry Meza for a $60,000 scholarship through the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP), awarded based on academic and personal achievement. This prestigious program encourages students to complete a bachelor’s degree and become a commissioned officer in any branch of the United States armed services
    • A record-breaking 359 students were recognized at the inaugural AP Scholars Night for earning distinctions from The College Board for their outstanding performance on AP exams during the 2023-2024 school year.

    OCTOBER

    • Superintendent Hernández presented wellness vision globally at the International Organization Development Association (IODA) Conference in Mexico City
    • Groundbreaking events held for Farine and Barton Elementary Schools.
    • Julie Soberanis, Irving ISD Director of Guidance, Counseling and College and Career Readiness, named School Counselor Supervisor of the Year by the Lone Star State School Counselor Association
    • MacArthur Lady Cardinals cross country team advanced to the regional meet, led by senior Faith Farrar’s fifth-place district finish.
    • Nimitz High School senior Luis Gonzalez qualified for the US Marine Corps Musician Enlistment Option Program, earning a prestigious spot in one of the many Marine Corps bands.
    • Two schools earned Campus Honor Roll Distinctions from the College Board based on the Class of 2024’s Advanced Placement (AP) performance - Irving High earned gold status, while Singley was awarded silver status

    • 5 Irving ISD seniors were among 7,288 scholars nationwide to be selected as QuestBridge National College Match Finalists - Jada Arredondo and Justin Herrera of Irving High School; Mahriz Zain, MacArthur High School; and Gabriel Esqueda and Hugo Lopez of Singley Academy
    • 37 Irving ISD paraprofessionals accepted to the next ELEVATE cohort for the opportunity to complete their bachelor's degree and earn their teaching certification through our partnership with Indiana Wesleyan University and the Teachworthy alternative certification program
    • Nimitz NJROTC cadet Johnathan Petrosky earned a NROTC ISR (Immediate Scholarship Reservation), worth up to $250,000
    • Delia Watley, Irving ISD AEL Grant Program Strategist, and Michael Crotty, Campus Operations Administrator for the district, named Irving High Spirited Citizens by the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau (ICVB)
    • Irving ISD partners with the Irving Hospital Authority on behalf of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving,  Irving Marathon, and the City of Irving to launch Blue Zones Ignite in Irving

    • Two Irving ISD seniors earned a 2024 QuestBridge National College Match to some of the nation’s top universities - Jada Arredondo of Irving High School (matched with Washington and Lee University) and Mahriz Zain of MacArthur High School (matched with Duke University)
    • 120 Career and Technical Education (or CTE) students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society
    • Four counseling programs earned the CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) Award by the Texas School Counselors Association (TSCA) - Singley Academy, Irving High School, Johnson Middle School and Schulze Elementary School
    • Nelson Martinez, a 2019 graduate of Singley Academy, selected for the Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge

    • Elaina Ruiz of Travis Middle School won the District Spelling Bee, advancing to the Dallas County Public School Bee
    • Two Irving ISD football players selected to compete in prestigious games - Nimitz High School’s Kayden Holder is one of 50 athletes from across the country selected to play in the prestigious Native American Athletic Foundation (NAAF) All-Star Football Game, and Irving High School star linebacker Omar Castro is selected to play in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl
    • 70 education pathway students from Irving, MacArthur and Nimitz high schools celebrated as future Irving ISD educators at the I Am Next signing ceremony

    • Superintendent Hernández named a TRS-ActiveCare Spotlight winner by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas for her vision and heart-driven passion for wellness
    • Nimitz, MacArthur and Irving advanced to the state Academic Decathlon meet
    • Irving ISD named a CTE District of Distinction by the Career and Technical Association of Texas
    • Five students named All-State Musicians by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) - Diego Amaya and Shashe Hossain from Irving High School; Usman Ali from MacArthur High School; Jorge Garcia and Tony Mendoza from Nimitz High School
    • Wyatt Davis of MacArthur High School and Devon Simmons of Nimitz High School qualify for the State wrestling tournament
    • Elementary Champion Rosy Funes-Guardado from John Haley Elementary School and Secondary Schools Champion Diogo Garcia of Houston Middle School won the District Spanish Spelling Bee.
    • 11 students from Irving, 6 students from Nimitz and 10 students from MacArthur qualify for State DECA competition
    • 4 students from Irving, 23 students from MacArthur and 20 students from Lamar Middle School qualify for State Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition
    • State qualifiers in Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) competition by school are as follows - 4 from Irving with 1 National qualifier, 18 from Nimitz with 5 National qualifiers, 9 from MacArthur with 3 National qualifiers
    • 1 student from Nimitz High School qualifies for State in FFA competition
    • Michael Huff, Nimitz High School Class of 2001, selected for the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame
    • Irving ISD Graphics & Webpage Coordinator Amanda Perez wins Gold Star medal and Best of Category honors for her design of the Magda A. Hernández Institute of Wellness and Professional Learning (MAHI) logo, and Digital Media & Marketing Coordinator AndreAnna Tate is named a finalist for the Platinum Award with the Irving ISD Student Influencer Program by the Texas School Public Relations Association

    • Superintendent Hernández is named a winner of the Nation’s Best and Brightest in Wellness award, sponsored by the National Association of Business Resources
    • Irving ISD hosts fifth annual State of the District, where Code to the Future’s CEO Andrew Svehaug announces Irving ISD as the first District to bring Code to the Future’s Lead AI program to the state of Texas and as one of only 12 inaugural districts in the United States selected
    • The Nimitz girls’ soccer team advances to the Bi-District round of the state playoffs 
    • The Irving boys’ soccer team wins the Bi-District round and advances to the Area rebound of the state playoffs
    • Competing at the state level for the 38th consecutive year, the storied Nimitz Academic Decathlon team finishes in the Top 10 in the State for the 28th time, MacArthur finishes as a Texas Top 20 Team for the first time in program history with a 15th place final ranking, and Irving High placed 10th overall at the Division II Frisco State Academic Decathlon Meet
    • Thanks to a grant from East Texas A&M University, students in the School of Agriculture Science at Nimitz High School establish a community fruit orchard at the school
    • Top student groups from the STEM Innovation course at each Irving ISD middle school design solutions to engineering and STEM challenges as part of the Ignite STEM competition, held February 27 at Verizon corporate headquarters, with Crockett Middle School winning three of the five categories, and Bowie Middle School taking top honors in the remaining two
    • Three students are selected as All-State Dancers by the Texas Dance Educators Association: Diana Torres of MacArthur, Emily Govea-Rodriguez of Nimitz and Dana Macias of Irving.
    • Nimitz theatre students Anthony Giron, Kevin Ventura and Ruben Martinez are named National Thespy finalists
    • 7 students from Singley, 4 students from MacArthur and 2 students from Irving qualify for State FCCLA competition
    • 17 students from Cardwell, 12 students from Singley, 15 students from MacArthur and 5 students from Irving qualify for State SkillsUSA competition
    • The Singley Academy Mock Trial team advances to State competition, with senior Andrew Creeger qualifying for Nationals this summer in Minneapolis
    • Nimitz Navy JROTC earns National bid to the All Service National Championship in Florida, following a state championship win at the Area 19 Tri-State competition
