Who can apply for Schools of Choice?
de Zavala Middle School
Incoming 6th graders may apply for de Zavala Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year. Students who currently attend de Zavala and will be beginning the school year as 7th & 8th graders do not need to apply and will remain at the campus until entering High School.Singley Academy
Incoming 9th graders and 10th graders
Singley Collegiate Academy & South Irving Collegiate at Nimitz
Incoming 9th graders
Cardwell Career Preparatory Center
Incoming 9th-12th graders may apply for Cardwell Career Preparatory Center. The Grad LAB program is for 12th graders only.

When can I apply?
The application window is open between October 21 - November 20, 2024 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Cardwell applications are open year-round.

Can I apply if I live outside of the boundaries of Irving ISD?
Irving ISD accepts out-of-district transfers for non-resident students. Families interested in making Irving ISD their district of choice are welcome to apply.

How does the district decide who is accepted to Schools of Choice?
For de Zavala Middle School, Singley Academy, Singley Collegiate Academy, and South Irving Collegiate Academy at Nimitz, acceptances are granted admission through a lottery.
For Cardwell Career Preparatory Center, acceptances are granted through an application process based on specific needs and criteria.

Can I apply for more than one school for my student?
A student may apply for more than one program within a pathway (STEM, CTE, Early College), but cannot apply across pathways.

When will I find out if my student has been accepted?
Acceptances will be made in three lottery rounds. The first round of acceptances will take place on December 10, 2024.

Round 3 Selection Notification: January 21, 2025
If a student is not selected in any of the 3 Rounds, the student will be put on a waitlist based on their first choice, if applicable. (Campuses are responsible for contacting students based on waitlist priority ranking)

Once my student is accepted, what do I need to do?
Once the acceptance notices have been emailed, you must confirm your spot within the acceptance window by filling out the form linked in the email before the acceptance deadline.

Is there transportation provided to Schools of Choice?
Bus transportation is provided for Schools of Choice. Eligibility follows existing transportation guidelines and takes into account proximity to the school and additional criteria, in accordance with state and federal law.

Do I need to reapply if my student is already enrolled in a School of Choice for the next school year?
No. Students currently attending a School of Choice plan to continue do not need to reapply.
