Policies and Procedures Regarding School Libraries

    The District shall provide a wide range of instructional resources for students and faculty that present varying levels of difficulty, diversity of appeal, and a variety of points of view and learning purposes.

    Library Material Selection Process

     
    Library materials are recommended and procured in accordance with guidelines adopted by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Click here to view the Irving ISD Library Materials Selection Process.
     

    Library Material Selection Guidelines 

    A certified school librarian or professional library staff trained on proper collection development standards is responsible for the selection and acquisition of library materials.

    Weeding Collections Guidelines 

    Materials that no longer meet the stated objectives of the library (including those that have become damaged or obsolete) will be systematically withdrawn, using the guidelines suggested in The CREW Manual, revised and updated by Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

    Reconsideration Process

    A parent of a student, employee or resident within the district may formally challenge a library resource/instructional material on the basis of the appropriateness of the resource.

    If a District employee, parent or guardian of a student, or a District resident wishes to challenge a library material, they should complete and submit this Reconsideration Form to the campus administrator.
     

    Students shall be responsible for the care and return of state-owned textbooks, library books, and instructional resources and may be charged for them when such items are lost or damaged.
