Rachel Morton, Principal
Rachel Morton, who has held administrator roles in Irving ISD for ten years, has been named principal of Johnston Elementary School.
“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and families of Johnston Elementary. I am looking forward to building relationships with the students, staff and parents. Parent involvement is a vital role to student success. I am excited to partner with our families! My goal is to ensure everything we do is centered around our mission: Provide a safe, supportive, and challenging academic community in which all students learn at their highest potential,” says Morton.
Morton most recently served as principal at Elliott Elementary School for three years and was an assistant principal at Farine Elementary School for five years. She was also an academic specialist at Keyes Elementary School and an instructional coach, math/science strategist and fourth- and fifth-grade teacher in Grand Prairie.
Morton earned a master’s degree from Texas A&M University - Commerce and a bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University.

Katherine Young, Assistant Principal
Katherine Young began her career in Florida as a middle school content area teacher. She transitioned to a district behavior resource teacher after four years in the classroom and then went back into the classroom as a special education English Language Arts and math teacher at an elementary campus.
Ms. Young and her family moved to Texas in 2005 and was hired at Johnston Elementary as the inclusion/resource teacher. In addition, she served as a curriculum writer and trained teachers on effective teaching practices. She was also a mentor to several student teachers.
Ms. Young spent four years in Arlington ISD as an instructional coach and RTI facilitator beginning in 2016. In February 2021, she came back to Johnston Elementary as an assistant principal. Ms. Young's passion is to work collaboratively with the community, parents, teachers, and staff so that at school students experience the best learning environment possible.
Ms. Young holds a bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in special education from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Texas in Arlington.
