History of Irving High School
Irving High School was founded in 1909. The school was located at the current Bowie Middle School. In 1918, there were no graduates of Irving High because of World War I. The school moved to our current campus in 1961.
Irving High was the only high school in Irving until 1963 when MacArthur High was built. Nimitz High was built five years later in 1968. In 2009, Irving High celebrated its centennial year. The Victory Bell was presented by the class of 1956 and mounted in front of the school at the old location. After a win, the bell was rung once for each point scored. The Victory Bell is now located in the foyer outside the school cafeteria.
