Kesha Valtierra, Principal
Ms. Valtierra is entering her 26th year in education in Irving ISD. She is a proud product of Irving ISD. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her master’s degree from Lamar University.
Having started at Gilbert in 2000, Ms. Valtierra has served many roles on this campus. She taught 5th grade for 12 years and 2nd grade for 3 years. She became an interventionist in 2015, the Academic Specialist in 2016, and served as an Assistant Principal since 2018. She kicks off her first year as principal this year and cannot wait to hit the ground running!
When Ms. Valtierra is not at school, she loves to watch college football (Hook ‘Em Horns!) on Saturdays and the Dallas Cowboys on Sundays! She enjoys spending time with her two sons, Joshua and Gabriel, and with the rest of her family as well.
She is honored to have the opportunity to serve the students, staff, and families of F. M. Gilbert in this new role. She is committed to building relationships with all stakeholders and ensuring the success and well-being of each individual student. Ms. Valtierra is deeply invested in this school community and is looking forward to the Best Year Ever!

Jesus Rayas, Assistant Principal
Mr. Rayas are very excited to join the Gilbert community as an assistant principal. Mr. Rayas was born in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. He relocated to Texas to pursue his studies in education and leadership in 2001.
Mr. Rayas earned his BA degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas Woman's University and his Masters in School Administration from Lamar University. Mr. Rayas has worked as assistant teacher, elementary teacher with experience in all grades, as well as academic specialist, and secondary administrator. Mr. Rayas has also taught several grade levels abroad in Taiwan.
Mr. Rayas enjoys building things and everything that has to do with technology.

Susan Duran, Assistant Principal
A Dallas native with deep Texas roots, Ms. Duran embarked on her educational journey as a classroom teacher. Her five years in a diverse Dallas school laid the foundation for her career, inspiring a passion for student success. Transitioning to Irving ISD, she honed her skills as an interventionist, supporting students with specialized needs. Over the past decade, Ms. Duran has excelled in school administration, dedicated to fostering academic excellence and cultivating a nurturing learning environment. When not leading her team, she cherishes time with her two children and beloved golden retriever, Valentina. Duran’s Mexican heritage and strong ties to Dallas continue to shape her perspective and drive her commitment to the community.
