Kerrie Tarver, Principal
Kerrie Tarver, an Irving ISD graduate is Principal of the school. Previously she served as Assistant Principal at Houston Middle School.
“As a proud graduate of Irving ISD, I am truly grateful and honored to serve as the new principal at Sam Houston Middle School,” says Tarver. “I look forward to continuing my work with the teachers, parents and community members. I am committed to ensuring that all students receive a quality education that serves as the foundation of their future success.
Tarver joined Team Irving in 2014 as a Science Teacher at Austin Middle School before moving to the Interventionist role. She also served the school as an Academic Specialist, Dean of Students and Assistant Principal, before moving to Houston Middle School.
She earned a master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Communications from the University of Houston - Downtown.

Celeste Hunt, Assistant Principal
Celeste Hunt is the sixth-grade Assistant Principal at Sam Houston Middle School. Mrs. Hunt brings 15 years of classroom experience to her position. She received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Texas and her Master of Education in Administration from Lamar University. After graduating with her BSW, Mrs. Hunt worked with runaway youth at Promise House and served as Director of Genesis Women’s Shelter.
Deciding to serve the community through education, Mrs. Hunt obtained her teaching certification and holds certification in English Language Arts 4-8 and Special Education PreK-12. In 2013, Mrs. Hunt entered administration as the administrative liaison for Bowie Middle School. The following year, she was promoted to assistant principal. Mrs. Hunt moved to Sam Houston Middle School in 2018 as an assistant principal.
When Mrs. Hunt is not at Sam Houston, she enjoys traveling and cooking with her husband. They have two dogs and two cats.

Christopher Henderson, Assistant Principal
Mr. Henderson received his bachelor’s degree from Xavier University of New Orleans. He taught in New Orleans Public Schools for 4 years until Hurricane Katrina. After relocating to the Irving area with his family, he worked in hotel management in the DFW area for several years. Fortunately, the love of teaching and impacting the lives of children called him back to the education profession. In 2008, he began his career as an Educator with the Irving ISD family as a Special Education teacher at the Wheeler Transitional Center.
He received his masters and Principal Certification from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2016, then joined the Lamar Middle School team as the Dean of Students. In the 2017-18 school year, he served as the Lamar Administrative liaison/6th Grade Assistant Principal. During the 2018-19 school year, he joined the Bobcat family at Travis as the 8th grade Assistant Principal, where he worked for 5 years.

Candace Beasley, 6th Grade Administrative Liaison
Ms. Beasley is joining the administrative team at Houston Middle School, serving as administrative liaison for the 2023-2024 school year.
After graduating high school, she attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, where she received a bachelor's degree in English. She later received her M. Ed in educational leadership at Texas A&M University.
Ms. Beasley is a firm believer that “Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently.” She is excited to join the team for her 13th year in education, helping make the necessary changes to best serve the students at Sam Houston Middle School. She embraces all of the future challenges and experiences that will mold her into the leader she aspires to be.

Katrina Roberson, Dean of Students
Katrina Roberson began her career in education teaching 2nd grade, and continued to teach 4th, 6th, and 7th. As a past mentor and team lead, she enjoys strengthening her skills by collaborating with other educators to ensure student success. She has obtained her bachelor’s in business administration, master’s in teaching and learning, and is a Doctoral candidate completing her Doctorate in educational leadership.
As Dean of Students, her goal is to cultivate student discovery towards the skills they need to achieve their personal goals. Her educational philosophy reflects a collaborative effort to meet a shared vision established by all stakeholders, “I believe all students should be in a safe learning environment that fosters inclusiveness, engagement, and higher-level thinking.”
As a former student of Sam Houston Middle School, she knows the strong values of the community as well as the district and is excited to learn from, and contribute to, the success of Houston MS and Irving ISD.
